Though Suzuki seems to be resistant to the idea of building a Jimny ute from the factory, another conversion kit has surfaced to turn the diminutive off-roader into a rugged pick-up.

The newest transformation comes courtesy of Yomper in the UK, who will take a third-generation Jimny and turn it into either a labour-focused workhorse with a steel tray known as the 275C Commercial, or a lifestyle-orientated ute with bedliner and body-coloured rear called the 225B Bergan.

Both versions will retain their 4x4 drivelines, as well as their 1.3-litre engines that are good for 63kW/110Nm.

However, removing the rear seats and adding a tray means an up to 500kg payload capacity, as well as towing for up to 750kg.

The Commercial version also gets its an extended 500mm wheelbase and 200mm of extra length which are behind the rear axle, to better accommodate longer loads in the alloy drop-side tray.

As such, the load area size is 1700mm long and 1690mm wide.

As for the Bergan, the load area measures 1295mm long and 1010mm wide thanks to an extended load bed, but the 2250mm wheelbase remains the same.

To accommodate the rear tray, Yomper adds 50mm to the ride height, while springs, dampers and suspension are also upgraded for heavier loads.

For those that might want a bit more punch, an all-electric Spark powertrain is also available, though exact details on outputs, range and charging are not yet available.

“Should EV be the right motive power choice for you, then we have a solution ready to go! Prices are subject to your required range; lead time and cost is strictly on application only”.

Sub-one-tonne utes are enjoying a bit of a resurgence recently, with the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick now available in the US as spiritual successors to the Subaru Brumby.

Australia however, will miss out on these two models for now, while ladder-frame models like Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max battle it out for popularity.
