BMW’s new $171,900 before on-road costs M50i will sit atop the X7 large seven-seat SUV range along the identically priced, diesel-powered M50d.
With a detuned version of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 found in the M5 Competition under the bonnet of the new X7, the M50i outputs 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque for a zero-to-100km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds.
Though the new X7 M50i is down the M5 Competition’s 460kW power, the new seven-seater matches the outputs of the smaller X5 M50i and M850i coupe and convertible which use the same powerplant.
Compared with its M50d sibling, the M50i produces 96kW more power, but 10Nm less torque.
Standard equipment in the X7 M50i includes 22-inch lightweight wheels, M Performance exhaust, M Sport differential, adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering set-up, metallic paint, soft-close doors, heated cup holders, five-zone climate control, sunroof and heated front seats.
Meanwhile, safety system fitted include a surround-view monitor, LaserLight headlights, autonomous emergency braking, reversing camera, lane-keep assist, head-up display and lane departure warning.
A new factory-fitted towing package can also be optioned across the X7 range, costing $2500 and able to two 3500kg.
The M50i joins the existing $124,900 xDrive30d and $171,900 M50d as the third variant in the BMW X7 line-up.
