CM Punk’s loss at UFC 225 was overturned

After leaving WWE in 2014, CM Punk entered into the world of Mixed Martial Arts for two fights in UFC.

Punk was slaughtered by Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in Sept. 2016. It was clear that Punk didn’t belong in the same ring as his opponent. He was mauled and forced to tap out in just over two minutes.

Punk’s next fight was against Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in June 2018. Punk was able to last the full 15 minutes, but he was outmatched the entire time and easily lost by unanimous decision. After the fight, Dana White acknowledged that Punk’s foray in UFC should be over.

It turns out that CM Punk’s final record in UFC won’t go down as 0-2, however. According to MMA Junkie, his loss at UFC 225 was officially changed to a “no contest”:

“...Punk’s unanimous decision loss to Mike Jackson at UFC 225 has been overturned to a no contest.

The change in result to the June 2018 fight, which wasn’t reported publicly until now, stems from Jackson testing positive for marijuana on fight night. On June 9, 2018, the night of UFC 225, Jackson tested positive for “tetrahydrocannabinol due to marijuana,” according to a commission disciplinary document obtained by MMA Junkie. Jackson’s discipline was finalized in October 2018 with all parties’ signatures.

As a result of his positive test, Jackson’s win was overturned and he was suspended three months retroactive to the positive test.”

So there you have it. Punk’s career record in UFC changes to 0-1 with 1 No Contest. It’s still not quite how Punk drew it up when he made the ambitious leap onto the biggest stage in MMA, but considering his straight edge lifestyle, it’s rather fitting that a positive marijuana test helps erase a loss off his record.
