Sinning has never looked so good.
The first season finale really gave us some jaw-dropping moments, not only from the loss that the Sins and Holy Knights suffer from Hendrickson in his demon form but also Hawk's heart-tugging sacrifice. It not only took Elizabeth's powers manifesting and saving everybody, but also some strategy from Meliodas, which allowed him to show a new technique called the "Revenge Counter" that finally defeated the demonic Hendrickson. It was a great finish to the first season and just a taste of what we were gonna see from there on out.
Seeing these two best friends fighting for the loves of their life was such a tragedy but inevitable. So after agreeing to a truce to save the Kingdom of Liones and rescue Elizabeth, the rematch was bound to happen, and man, did it deliver. Meliodas and Ban really show why they use violence against each other as therapy since they're both immortal. Seeing them go all out with no worry of destroying everything around them was a nice touch since Merlin had put her Perfect Cube barrier around them. Something about the way this ended was touching as we know the pain these two have suffered from dealing with the loss of a loved one.
With the release of the Ten Commandments, we already see how powerful an Albion can be as one attacks Camelot, and Arthur and the Sins have to resort to Meliodas' Sacred Lostvayne to be able to take it down. In this case, King is back at his Kingdom where he has lost the respect from his people and it takes a herculean effort to defeat the towering Albion that cuts down the sacred tree of his homeland. Overall, both Albion fights were incredible but this one stood out to me just a little more.
With Galand and Melascula giving chase to Ban and company, Jericho is able to drag Elaine and Ban to a hole in the wall bar that gives us our long last introduction to the final member of the Seven Deadly Sins: Escanor. The puny man donning glasses seems out of place considering the other members but it isn't until we see Galand make a deal with Escanor to a fight where the REAL Escanor comes to play. After knocking out the puny version of Escanor to the next day, we quickly see how important the sun is to Escanors power. This fight is just the beginning of many outings we get to enjoy with Escanor showing why he is one of the most powerful members of the Seven Deadly Sins.
So I kind of cheated here and didn't mention any specific fight, I really just loved the overall arc and fights that took place during these few episodes. We see the revival of the Vaziel fighting tournament like in Season 1, but this time run by two of the Ten Commandments, Drole and Gloxinia, which made them not only endure a labyrinth of sorts but then pit each other to fight. This led to some pretty entertaining fights but was another sign of Escanors greatness as he saves his friends and others by diverting an attack from his opponent Gowther to Drole and Gloxinia.
One of the more heartbreaking episodes of the series as we see our main hero lose his life to his former comrades of the Demon Clan. Now, just like Jon Snow, we all knew this wasn't going to be permanent but seeing his best friend Ban trying to save his life while Estarossa stabbed out Meliodas' multiple hearts was still gut-wrenching. He put up a hell of a fight throughout this battle and it further showed the bond that Ban and Meliodas share.
If you haven't noticed Escanor is in a lot of the top fights of this series. It might be low-hanging fruit but he's simply that amazing. This fight is just another showing of how powerful he is as he takes on the demon who killed his beloved leader and does so in a way that made me jump out of my seat. It's not the last time we see Estarossa, but seeing him be defeated after killing Meliodas was pretty satisfying.
With Meliodas coming back to life in his demon form, it was up to none other than Escanor to take him out temporarily while the gang figured out what to do next. The long-awaited battle between these two titans did not disappoint as we see them both use their full power. We also discover Escanor's high noon ultimate power, "The One," which for a minute makes him invincible. Another battle that reminds us who the most powerful members of the Seven Deadly Sins truly are.
You know there's always gotta be a flashback episode or arc in every anime, and Seven Deadly Sins is no different. Although this particular flashback really gave us some amazing backstories for a lot of the characters in the series as a whole. This included a fantastic battle between the Archangels and the Ten Commandments, who have just witnessed their fellow demons get obliterated before their very eyes. This lends to Monspeet and Derieri sacrificing some of their hearts to use the "Indura" technique which makes their power exceedingly higher but only as long as their life force allows. It's a fight that really highlights these two powerful forces, but also gives us a glimpse of Elizabeth's potential seeing as she is the one that is able to revert Monspeet and Derieri back to their normal forms.
After suffering his defeat to Escanor, Estarossa goes on a mission to obtain all the Commandments for himself, therefore, becoming more powerful. This fight wasn't particularly long, but it was another moment where we empathize with a now reformed Monspeet and Derieri who are trying to move on from their former Demon clan lives. Unfortunately, it's short-lived as Estarossa shows up and not only kills the villager they had befriended, but also takes Monspeets life after Derieri makes an error which forces Monspeet to sacrifice himself to save his love.
While attempting to stop the transformation of Meliodas into the new Demon King, we see the team gather up to take on Zeldris, Chandler, and Cusack. This eventually becomes a match between Zeldris and Escanor as the others just seem to be no match for the powerful demons. In true Escanor form, he comes to the aid of his long-time crush Merlin to not only defeat Zeldris, but save his friends in the end.
The reveal that Estarossa was actually Mael, a former Archangel whose memories were altered to make him think he was an original Ten Commandment was pretty crazy to see. He not only goes mad due to his absorption of the Commandments, but also his shaky memory did no part in helping. He eventually fights not only his former Archangel comrades Sariel and Tarmiel, but also some of the Sins as well. This leads to an epic battle that ends with King (Harlequin) putting his full powers on display with his wings finally sprouting.
With Merlin still trying to delay the transformation of Meliodas into the Demon King, we get a showdown of former brothers as Mael comes to fight Zeldris with his renewed Archangel abilities. Zeldris, still being driven by Meliodas' promise to return his love to him, makes an all-out attempt to ensure his brother's transformation. It's a close contest although we do see why Mael was known as being the strongest of all the Archangels. It's a bittersweet victory though as Zeldris is defeated, but Demon King Meliodas makes his entrance.
Seeing the reunion of Ban and Meliodas in purgatory and also their battle with the Demon King was not only awesome but somewhat tragic. Wild sacrifices himself to free his brother Hawk's comrades, only for Ban to be the one released from Purgatory while Meliodas is captured again by his father.
While Meliodas is still battling his father in the Purgatory realm, we see Ban make his comeback to the mortal realm with not only newfound abilities but also with his immortality gone after giving it up to save his one true love, Elaine. His newfound skills not only allow him to stand toe to toe with the Demon King but also simultaneously gives him the ability to help free his best friend from Purgatory. It takes a combined effort from the rest of the Sins to change Meliodas back to his normal form, but damn if it wasn't Ban who really made it possible.
What is there to be said? The showdown we've waited for with Meliodas finally facing his father in the mortal realm but also trying to free his brother. The culmination of Escanor sacrificing himself and giving us one last showing of his immense power, as well as the team pulling off the craziest combo of attacks, made me shout with joy but also kind of sad knowing that this fantastic series was coming to an end. Although there were a few more episodes after this, and another battle proceeding this with Arthur, it just didn't hold a candle to what this fight meant for the series as a whole. By far one of the best battles to close the chapter on the Seven Deadly Sins.
