This is our edit of Perth’s best new cafes, updated monthly. Some are following the latest coffee trends – continuing the push away from espresso and towards batch-brew – while others are trying to become great neighbourhood catch-up spots.

Here’s where we're going for coffee right now.

  • This tiny bakery serves superb danishes, sausage rolls, sandwiches and cakes in a semi-industrial pocket of Perth. Plus, Basque cheesecake and one of the city’s finest croissants.

  • This family-run deli is by a hospitality veteran and two of his daughters. Experience the essence of Italy with authentic Neapolitan flavours, paninis, pastas, Pascucci coffee and, of course, traditional tiramisu and cannoli.

  • This suburban takeaway joint serves some of the city’s mightiest porchetta panini. Alongside that, it sells slabs of Roman-style pizza with house-made sausage, plus changing pasta and street-food specials.

  • This perky 50-seater is a love letter to Japan’s north – offering deeply flavoured curry (including vegan options) and rice, beer and wine from Hokkaido.

  • An all-day dining room and provedore from the North Street Store crew. Stop by the 140-person space for breakfast plates, sausage rolls, cinnamon scrolls and fresh local produce.

  • The menu at this Middle Eastern kiosk might be small, but the flavours are big, robust and perfect for al fresco feasting. Come for chicken shawarma, verdant falafels and drinks from nearby Servo.

  • With spots all over the country (and in Hong Kong), Sydney-born Messina is Australia’s biggest gelato success story. At its first Perth outpost, try its knockout scoops (think milk chocolate with peanut fudge) and creamy cakes.

  • This colourful NYC-inspired kiosk, from the team behind Soho Lane, is known for its chewy bagels, dense schmears and a mighty salt-beef bagel inspired by a London institution.

  • This spot, by the crew behind The Bird and Ezra Pound, is not just another Southern-style fried chicken joint. Come for funky natty wines and local beers paired with hot fried chicken. The spice levels start at medium.

  • A pocket-sized cafe and bakery by an ex-Deli’s Continental team member. Here, she's asking you to indulge in house-made cookies, focaccia toasties and other treats.

  • An extra-creative couple are behind this suburban spot, which nods to Perth’s old-school delis. Strollio’s dishes up plenty of nostalgia, plus sangas, house-made baked goods, pantry staples and coffee.
