Anzac Day Gunfire Breakfast

Thu 25th April, 2019
Flinders Walk Melbourne 3000
Free brekkie for diggers and the opportunity to donate to charity while you fuel up after the dawn service.

Before first light, soldiers serving in World War I would have their coffee mugs topped up with a bit of rum – to calm their nerves.

Today, the tradition still exists in RSLs across Australia, which serve coffee and rum as part of their “gunfire breakfasts” before and after the dawn service.

Arbory Bar & Eatery and Arbory Afloat are marking Anzac Day with a special breakfast menu. Diggers and people who have served or are serving in Australia or New Zealand's military will receive a complimentary breakfast from the special menu. Members from Legacy, a charity that serves Australian families affected by death or injury from defence force service, will be there to raise funds for their cause.

Arbory Bar & Eatery will serve two new breakfast burgers, one with cheese-stuffed mushroom, fried egg, pesto and kale, and another with breakfast terrine, fried egg and relish. And Arbory Afloat is serving two new breakfast pizzas for the occasion. The Mattutina comes with San Marzano, provolone cheese, egg and porchetta, and the Fungiara with buffalo mozzarella, mushrooms, pecorino and shaved Grana Padano.

Hot mugs of a “gunfire breakfast”, made with black coffee and rum, will also be available, alongside both venues’ usual all-day menus.

From 7am.
