Hollyoaks star Adam Rickitt has landed a new soap role twenty years after his Coronation Street debut. Channel 4 soap actor Adam - who played Nick Tilsley on Coronation Street before Ben Price took the role on - is joining the cast of Doctors on the BBC.

“Adam was amongst the best soap actors in the country so it was only a matter of time before he landed a new role," a source said. “He’s really excited to get started on Doctors and bosses can’t wait to see how viewers react to him.

“Adam has spent a lot of time working on his bar but is in a position to get back to acting now.” He played Gail Platt’s eldest son from 1997 to 2004, before being replaced by Ben Price.

Adam first left the role in 1999, as he embarked on a short lived music career, releasing hit single Breathe Again after signing a six-album deal with Polydor. However his album Good Times failed to light up the charts, and only made it to number 41, resulting in him being dropped by his label.

Adam later decided to carve out a career in politics, and even appeared on Question Time in 2006 as a candidate for the Conservative Party, but quit as he was unable to find a constituency to stand for election in. He turned his hand to singing once again, as he joined pop group 5th Story on The Big Reunion, alongside Dane Bowers, Gareth Gates, Kavana and Kenzie.

Adam returned to TV screens once again in 2017, but this time he was cast as Kyle Kelly in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. BBC Doctors continues to air on BBC One and iPlayer, with Hollyoaks and Coronation Street also airing on Channel 4 and ITV 1 respectively.
