Size of the seed can affect what type of planter modifications are necessary, such as buying new seed plates or finger pickups. Planting sunflower can begin anytime after soils have warmed to 50 degrees F. (April) through mid-July.

Apr 22, 2007 · Buy a bag of striped seeds and a bag of black oil sunflower seeds. I'll alternate the seed plantings and see how that grows and what I end up with. Since this is an experimental plot, and I'll be also doing it in the mulch/no till method. The stalks come in handy for stacking the bottom layer of a larger aerobic composting system after harvest.

May 20, 2018 · Raw or roasted? Raw sunflower seeds have bugs in them, shelled or unshelled. They have to be frozen for a few days to kill the bugs. And they are good for 6 months to a year at best and that's when stored in a cool, dry area. Roasted sunflower seeds won't have bugs and won't go bad as quickly but still are good for only a couple years at most.

Mostly we do hand work as it is only a few acres (70 of fields and maybe 4 of crops) and we live on the side of the mountain - machine work is difficult to impossible due to steep slopes and shallow soils.

Mar 2, 2010 · The Earthway is faster with the larger seeds at closer spacing and it has better depth control. The Earthway is the only real option for the two for smaller seeds. The seed stick is great for larger spacing with the larger seeds and for planting squash, ect. in hills. Neither seeder is perfect. They both take some getting used to.

Nov 17, 2007 · I figure my buns get enough protein from the alfalfa/timothy hay and the grains... although the sunflower seeds will increase it somewhat. Tne breeders and the young doe I am keeping look great. I will just keep tweaking their diet until I am happy with it, but what I am doing seems to be working well. Furholler, it really isn't much work.
