FAW Women's Cup: Cardiff Met Women win domestic treble

Cardiff Met completed the domestic treble with a 2-0 win over Abergavenny in the FAW Women's Cup final.

Kerry Harris' team maintained their unbeaten record this season thanks to two fine goals from Madison Schupbach.

She fired the Archers ahead on 19 minutes after Rebecca Mathias picked her out and then smashed home as Aber failed to clear a corner.

The student side had already secured the Welsh Premier title and the Welsh Premier Women's Cup.

The Archers' Welsh Premier League title win was their sixth overall and they lifted the FAW Women's Cup for a third time at Newport's Dragon Park.

Abergavenny had been hoping to cause an upset in their first FAW Women's Cup final appearance.

Lyndsey Davies went close for them in the first period with an effort from distance, but Estelle Randall saved.

However, Cardiff Met have been almost unstoppable this term and two excellent finishes from Schupbach did the damage in the first half.

She showed excellent composure on 19 minutes when she lost her marker completely, but her second goal 16 minutes later was a stunner, a powerful shot on the turn that flashed across Charlotte Hastings, giving her no chance.

Abergavenny enjoyed a period of dominance after the break, but Kate Jeramiah missed the target after Laura Davies' pass and Lauren Boyd headed wide from a teasing corner.

Met continued to be a threat on the counter, with Alice Griffiths going close when Schupbach turned provider, but could not find a third goal.

Griffiths then struck a post when Abergavenny failed to clear a corner.

Having dominated domestically, Cardiff Met's attentions will turn to next season's European campaign after their last game of the season against Llandudno.

No Welsh side has ever progressed beyond the Uefa Women's Champions League qualifying round and Met's Robyn Pinder said that will be their aim.

"After our last league game we'll have a well-deserved rest," she said.

"It's been a busy year academically for some of the girls and a lot of the girls work as well.

"The coaching team will probably get together and then we'll start looking to build our squad ready for the Champions League qualifiers.

"I think this year we really need to revisit our preparation and sit down as a whole group and come up with something special to get out of the group stages."
