By Randall JacksonJune 2, 2022

Personnel from the Logistics Readiness Center Italy enjoyed a warm welcome from their counterparts at the Alpini of Regimento Logistica "Julia", a logistics activity located at an Italian Army Base in Merano.

The group visited the post, about 100 miles north of Vicenza, on May 19 for Leadership Professional Development, or LPD, said Keli`i Bright, Director, Logistics Readiness Center Italy.

“We’re guests in a foreign country and we should take time to appreciate how their military works,” Bright said.

The Julia logistic regiment was instrumental during the COVID-19 response in Italy. Italian Army Colonel Alberto Baessato shared the differences in how Italians approach field and theater logistics, for their own army and when embedded within a NATO structure.

The visit included a tour of the compound, static displays and demonstrations of tactical and non-tactical equipment and mobile facilities. They also had to eat, drink and socialize – networking that could lead to future partnership. Bright hopes to offer a reciprocal visit to the Alpini in the future.

“The care and effort which it took to display Julia's forces-- and the empowerment and sense of ownership instilled within Julia's junior officers and NCOs—was clearly evident,” Bright said.
