Want to stream but like Spectrum. This is a great app with the Roku stick.
This app helped to utilize Spectrum TV line up. The Roku stick would be better with voice command but with ours, we have to stroke through all the stations to change stations. There are also many other streaming stations available with the stick. We love Spectrum, so this app allows us to have the best of all worlds as long as it is accompanied with a Roku stick
Roku 3 - Had it for years. We only use it for Roku streaming stuff, not local media, since the video formats it can handle are limited.
Every year or so, it will lock up. A reboot has always fixed it. The software it runs is auto-upgraded. Never had any issues with that all the years we've had it. It just works.
I hear there are over 1500 "private" channels. Never found any of those to be worth the effort to use. I suppose anyone can setup a video cam out their window and stream on Roku. The well-known free content and Amazon Prime work for us. NBC, ABC, Freeform, CW, PBS, Tubi, Crackle, SyFy, just as a start for the free/ad-supported channels. Some content is locked behind "provide your paid TV subscription" BS, which we don't have, but eventually most of that content will be opened. We have a chromecast too. Tried to find a use for it and couldn't. It sits in a drawer somewhere. I suppose if we had Netflix, there would be 1 use. Rokus do netflix great, BTW.
If we do move the 4K screens, I'd buy a newer Roku for DRM content playback. Today, I wouldn't buy a Roku3, but that is only because there are newer models available.
None of these streaming devices are as good as our home-built Kodi/OSMC raspberry pi for local content. They just aren't. Regardless, for non-nerd families, a roku is probably the best of the choices in a streaming box since they are cheap, work, don't limit what you can or can't stream from reputable online providers, and are very easy to use and maintain.
This Roku stick is giving me access to Acorn TV and many other online channels, which is great for a BBC junkie like me. I can see Netflix and Amazon too, along with HBO and many others. The reason to buy a Roku is that they have the best selection of channels compared to every other similar device, and they don't force you into a particular vendor, the way that the Google and Amazon devices do. Each company's stick has a particular set of channels they support and if the device you have doesn't do the channel you want, you're cooked. You kinda have to choose your device based on the channels you want to watch. I have a Sony Blue Ray player that has a fixed set of online channels and that's it. It doesn't add channels when it upgrades and it doesn't do Acorn. So, the Roku stick. By the way, there's a cell phone app for the Roku, that is far superior to the Roku remote. The app has an actual key board and will listen to voice commands. So you probably don't really need the Roku 3, unless you really need games and headphones. And I always buy refurb's. Low price and high quality every time.
(Also, Roku will send you a free bendable HDMI adapter, if you have a hard time hiding it behind your TV)
This is the best alternative to cable forget that rabbit thing and many others. It does have every single channel it says. If you want more channels you can insert an sd card. I have a 32 gb good class San disk I purchased right here, now I can put way more than 50 channels. Some are free many are available for a very small subscrition. It has something about everything, sports ,fitness kids, crafts home and garden. I was amazed like a kid in a candy store. The movies and shows are good not those junky that some places offer. The channels are independent and all of them have something different to offer. The movies and shows do have commercials but they are like 2 every time compare to 7 or more on regular tv. It's easy to instal it picked my wifi in a snap it certainly doesn't lagg like other system. I do recommend the highests bp in your connection that is what we have and it works like a charm. Mine was refurbished and it works like a new one since day one. I love it, I even get to watch runway shows from many places. You can also have the option of getting a very affordable cable subscription it cost $20.00 but that is up to you . If you have cable and just want to extend it to an extra room you can watch any channel that your company carries. So it can stand on it's on or you can also use it as a combination or an extension of your regular cable.
It was initially a little wonky to get it to sync with our TV, but once it was up and running, it worked for well. It's nice that they have added a Roku channel to their feature and a lot of the apps are free too use, but there are quite a few that still require a monthly fee and sign up, which is ridiculous, especially since they are still showing ads when using their apps. Hulu does have different tier levels, but their $40.00 per month offer just seems excessive, considering their live stream section for network TV still shows ads. I might as well keep cable for that price and they're not the only ones. Other than this, the Roku is fairly easy too navigate through and I do recommend that you also get a micro SD card for more app storage space. The headphones with the remote is a really nice feature as well. They do mute the sound from the TV and it does work well for people who are hard of hearing; not completely deaf.
Brilliant device that turns a dumb TV into an intelligent one. Easy to use and robust. Sometimes the service hangs up though I don't think this is the fault of ROKU but either of wifi or further up the line at Netflix or whoever. I cn recommend.
Brilliant, does everything it says it does. I was up and running in seconds. Make sure your Roku is on the tv as you install. Did it all itself. Found my internet provider, then Roku which was on, all I did was click on my Roku. Done. Remote was up and running. Couldn't have been easier. So when my remote doesn't work yet again I know what to do. I will use my Kindle fire to control my Roku.
