- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2022I highly recommend this book, it has some great information and even suggests some movies to watch to get a sense of the period. I wish there was an updated book, as this is over twenty years old, but I found the hardcover in my local library and wanted a copy for my own. Excellent book all around. There needs to be more of these books published.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2009The title sums it up pretty much. What was there was good but some of it seemed a little generalized. Like the part about infantry as an example. It says that early (in this case from 1607 to 1675) the main weapon was the pike, but this is not really true. It was more 2/3 musketeers and 1/3 pikemen. In fact by 1676 (king philips war) no army really used pikes since the tactic didn't work well against natives. The book is full of things like this, he could have put a bit more research in.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2009Very interesting, informative and educational. I was particularly attracted to the book because the author researched his topics through Colonial Williamsburg experts, who know more about this stuff than anybody.
