- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2021In the hardware store, I could only find a flag for a metal mailbox, and I have a brick one. This worked perfectly. It was easy to install (see photo of instructions). If you have a brick mailbox, just make sure you have a 5/32 inch masonry bit to drill the right size hole for the included masonry screws. After drilling the holes, the two screws went in smoothly and securely. I suspect the plastic flag will deteriorate in a couple of years since my mailbox gets strong morning sun, but replacing the flag at that time will be cheap and easy, so I'm not worried.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021The flag was missing from my mailbox when I moved in and I finally decided to replace it just before winter started. It clicks into the upward position nicely, and has succeeded at catching my mail carriers eye each time of use.
Installation was easy enough, just two bolts to hold to the mailbox and then a screw to attach the flag and a small plastic cover. I believe it came with other installation hardware.
A couple months later and many winter storm elements later, and no issues at all.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2017We bought this for our new brick mailbox. Everything came in the kit and installed amazingly easily. My only reason for not giving it a 5-star review was that fact that outside of the screws, everything is plastic. We've got a great brick case with a metal mailbox and this plastic flag/flag assembly. It's a very simple design with just a little protuberance on the proximal end of the flag (hinge-end) where it catches on a similar thing in the mechanism. With it being plastic for all pieces, I'm not sure how long this will last. I honestly anticipate replacing this in a few years because of this simple mechanism/plastic construction.
Here's hoping I'm wrong, but history has pointed me in a different direction.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2020I live in a gated community and sometimes the HOA has nothing better to do than to nit pick. So for whatever reason, I go out to my mailbox and I see that my flag broke off. Two days later, I had a citation letter in that same mailbox! So I hopped onto Amazon and found this Universal Mailbox Flag. It's got different holes and screw sizes to fit a variety of mailboxes, and I found the fit for mine.
The good: It works. It isn't all that expensive. Since I'm in an HOA, I have to get my replacement mailbox through a vendor that charges a kidney and half of your liver. I decided it's better to just get the flag.
The downside: It's not the sturdiest thing in the world. It's holding up fine but I hope it doesn't blow off when the wind picks up (I'm in South Florida).
Overall, it's worthwhile. Saved me some money and allowed me to use the mailbox a little longer.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2024my mail man destroyed my flag..this was an easy replacement
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2021Moved to a new house and the brick encased mailbox did not have a flag any more. Installation was super easy (my installed required a small masonry bit, not included in the kit, to drill pilots for the included masonry screws). Installation only took a couple of minutes. Flag looks great, and feels durable, although only time will tell.
Update:. It's now been ten months and everything still looks brand new. No fading of the flag at all. It these ten months its gone through a week long freeze with snow and ice, lots of rain, plus a hot Texas summer as well. All without any signs of wear and tear. Defintely a well made product.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2020Our mailbox is installed in a brick column and didn’t have any type of indicator for the mail carrier that there was outgoing mail. I really like this flag that I installed on the approach side of the column. Per the instructions, I pre-drilled the mounting holes in the mortar joints with the recommended 5/32” masonry drill bit. One of the supplied blue concrete screws broke off as I was driving it in. It was a real pain getting the broken part out so I wouldn’t have to drill new holes and relocate the flag. I recommend not using the supplied blue concrete screws as they appear to be substandard. The flag assembly itself is plastic but looks like it will last awhile.
