This overview of south-central African traditional religious beliefs and customs, written by my late father (1975), is the best non-technical treatment of this complex subject by a non-African that I know of. Based on research carried out over a decade after Zambia (Northern Rhodesia) obtained its independence from Britain in 1964, it occasionally uses expressions or makes references that would not be deemed contextually appropriate today. In any case, this book laid the foundation for my own studies as provided and guided by my national mentors, students, and colleagues at Lusaka Lutheran Seminary, e.g., https://www.academia.edu/2472792/Galu_Wamkota_Old_Dog_Missiological_Reflections_from_South-Central_Africa -- and -- https://www.academia.edu/3854776/Sewero_Christian_Drama_and_the_Drama_of_Christianity_in_Africa
