Poland is a country in Central Europe. The capital of the country is Warsaw and the country has a total of about 40 million inhabitants. In the Second World War, Poland suffered severely and the country was largely destroyed. Despite the great devastation in the Second World War, a large part of the Polish cultural heritage has been preserved. A part of the heritage has been carefully restored, such as the Wawel Royal Castle, or completely reconstructed, including the historic center and the Royal Palace in Warsaw and the Old Town of Gdańsk. Poland currently has a total of 15 heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Poland has a rich tradition and history in music and was home to well-known names in music, including the famous composers Chopin and Penderecki. Poland also has a rich history of famous poets. The most important are the 'three bards': Mickiewicz, Krasiński and Słowacki, the national poets of Polish romantic literature.
