Iris Coloboma with intra-ocular lens showing capsular fibrosis. Coloboma of the iris is a relatively harmless congenital condition (present at birth). It causes the pupil to have an irregular shape often referred to as looking like a keyhole. In addition this the image shows an intra-ocular lens (IOL) a lens implanted into the eye to treat conditions such as Myopia which in this patient could be worsened by the coloboma as the condition can also affect the lens. Also visible in this image is capsular fibrosis the white matter which can be seen through the pupil. The implantation of the lens has caused this fibrosis as the body heals, it may be a problem as the progressive clouding can obscure vision.
