Album

• This movie ran into casting issues and was almost called off. Despite knowing that the movie might not get made, R.D. Burman recorded a song for it with his own money.[MR2]
• Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali began his Hindi film career as an assistant director in this film. He was credited as Associate Director - Songs. He got this break when his sister Bela introduced him to the director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Chopra selected Bhansali based on a three-minute Kathak dance video he had directed set to a song by Birju Maharaj.[1]
• A frustrated Vidhu Vinod Chopra decided to make a commercial film next when he was unable to find any buyers for "Khamosh" (1985) although many had appreciated it. It was in these circumstances that he released "Khamosh" (1985) on his own and started writing this film.[2][3]
• This was lyricist Khurshid Hallauri's debut Hindi film. While he did go on to write a few more Hindi film songs, this remains his best-known work.
• Vidhu Vinod Chopra remade this film in English as "Broken Horses" (2015) with American cast and crew. While the Hindi film won several awards and was a hit at the box-office, its English remake was a disaster.
• This film was initially titled "Kabutarkhana" after a busy, Bombay crossroad where pigeons roost. A scene in the film shot at this location was much talked about and is considered one of the most memorable scenes in it.[4]
• The fire used while shooting the climax of this film went out of control and Nana Patekar actually ended up getting burnt in it. He was hospitalised for weeks and it took a year for is burn injuries to heal. When he returned to resume the shooting of the climax, Patekar suffered from pyrophobia, the same condition the character he was playing in the film suffered from.[5]
• Vidhu Vinod Chopra decided to shoot the scenes in the film's climax involving large crowds on New Year's eve since he did not have the budget to assemble crowds. Since the film was in the making for two years and Chopra wanted some additions in those scenes, he ended up shooting for the film on three consecutive New Year's eves.[6]

• Tumse Milke Aisa Laga - This R.D. Burman song borrowed heavily from Leo Sayer's "When I Need You".[7]
• Tumse Milke Aisa Laga - It was Anil Kapoor who asked Jackie Shroff to play the role of his elder brother in this film. Jackie was not keen on doing the film since he had never heard of director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. However, when Anil Kapoor played this song for him in his car, Jackie Shroff liked it so much that he agreed to do the film.[8]
• Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari - Music director Manas Mukherjee's son Shaan debuted as a singer in this film with this song and its sad version. He would go on to make a career as a playback singer in the years to come. His sister Sagarika, who sang the song with him, had debuted earlier for a song composed by their father, "Khushboo Hoon Main Phool Nahin" ("Shaayad", 1979).[9]
• Pyar Ke Mod Pe - This song was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was assisting director Vidhu Vinod Chopra in this film. Pleased with his work, Chopra gave Bhansali the responsibility of directing all the songs in his next film, "1942 - A Love Story" (1994).[10][11]
• Pyar Ke Mod Pe - Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to shoot this song in one go to ensure continuity. The song was therefore shot in a matter of minutes as the sun was actually setting.[12]
