Phelps Wisconsin Population Charts

According to the most recent Phelps Wisconsin demographics data available from the United States Census Bureau released in the American Community Survey in December of 2019, Figure 1 Phelps depicts it has a population of 1,010 which is the third most of all other places in the local area. The city with the highest population in the area is Iron River which shows a population of 2,856 (approximately 2.8 times bigger). Figure 3 uses the Phelps population data for a comparison of the population growth/population change estimates from the years 2010 to 2018 and Phelps Wisconsin depicts a decline of 190 (16%).

The total Phelps Wisconsin greater area population percent change for all areas for the years from 2010 to 2018 is shown in Figure 4 and for Phelps depicts it has a population percent change of -15.8% which is the second smallest when ranked by population percent change of all the other places in the greater region.

Looking at the Phelps population density (measured as people per square mile) and providing comparisons to both the national and state average population density in Figure 5, Phelps Wisconsin shows it has 11 people per square mile which is the smallest as measured by population density of all the other places in the surrounding region. The next higher when ranked by population density is Watersmeet CDP approximately 4.6 times bigger with population density of 50. The city with the highest population density in the area is Eagle River which depicts a people per square mile of 509 ( considerably bigger). Figure 6 provides Phelps demographics for the overall median age for all people in the region and Phelps shows it has an overall median age of all people of 60.0 which is the second most median age of all the places in the greater Phelps region. The city with the highest overall median age of all people in the area is Three Lakes CDP which depicts an age of 61.6 (only about 2.7% larger). The Phelps Wisconsin population data for median age broken out by gender for both men versus the median age of women is shown in Figure 7. Phelps Wisconsin depicts a median age of men only about 4.3% larger as the median age of women.

The next demographic analysis (Figure 8) looks at large generational Phelps population groups (and can be useful internet research for employment related research or identifying areas with retirees). Key findings in this chart includes that Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of people less than 20 years of age the second smallest in order of people less than 20 years of age of all the other places in the local area at 14.4% of the total. Second, it has less than most other places in the metro area in terms of people between 20 and 29 years old at 5.3% of the total. Third, it has the smallest proportion of people between 30 and 39 years old at 5.3% of the total. Also, it has the smallest proportion of people between 40 and 49 years old at 6.6% of the total. In addition, it has one of the largest proportions of people between 60 and 69 years old at 23.9% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Three Lakes CDP with 25.3%. Furthermore, it has one of the largest proportions of people 70 years of age or older at 26.0% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Three Lakes CDP with 28.0%.

Figure 9 illustrates the overall diversity breakdown for Phelps population and ethnicity groups in the area. (note: Hispanic/Latino is broken out separately in the next diagram and also the group denoted as Native ethnicity includes Native American, and Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.) Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of Native population in the middle range of other places in the greater region at 1.6% of the total. Figure 10 shows the Phelps Wisconsin Hispanic (including non Hispanic whites) population household ethnicity in the region and Phelps shows it has a people who are Hispanic or Latino of 3.2% which is the third most Hispanic Population of all other places in the greater Phelps region. Figure 11 compares the ratio of the amount of men to the amount of women and shows total male population 7.4% larger as the total female population.

Figure 12 shows the detailed marriage characteristics broken down by %residents who are married, never married, single, divorced, and widowed. Phelps has one of the largest proportions of total percent married at 61% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Three Lakes CDP (63%), and #1 Watersmeet CDP (69%) are larger. Second, it has the smallest proportion of never married percent at 15% of the total. Figure 14 compares the average household size using the average number of people in a family for Phelps households. Phelps shows it has an average family size of 2.4 which is the second smallest in terms of average family size of all the other places in the metro area. The city with the highest average family size in the area is Watersmeet CDP which shows an average family size of 3.0 (26.3% larger).

Figure 15 shows the overall ratio of Phelps households for families to the total number of Phelps households and that Phelps depicts it has a percent of people who are in a family of 61% which is the second most of all the places in the greater region. The city with the highest percent of people who are in a family in the area is Watersmeet CDP which shows a families percent of 76% (24.5% larger).

Looking at Phelps households that are headed by a husband and wife as a percent of all families in Figure 16, Phelps depicts it has a percent of people in a husband and wife family of 82% which is in the middle range of other places in the local area. The city with the highest percent of people in a husband and wife family in the area is Three Lakes CDP which depicts a husband and wife family percent of 93% (13.7% larger). Figure 17 shows Phelps demographics for the head of household for each place using a breakdown of married-couple, male-headed alone, and female-headed alone. Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of households in the mid range of other places in the surrounding region at 81.9% of the total. Second, it has less than most other places in the metropolitan area in order of households at 2.9% of the total. Third, it has in the center range of other places in the metro area when ranked by households at 15.2% of the total.

The next set of demographic data looks at the marital status for Phelps households which is useful for internet research. Figure 28 compares the total number of single people in each area. Phelps depicts it has a percent of people who are single for any reason of 39% which is less than most other places in the surrounding region. The city with the highest percent of people who are single for any reason in the area is Caspian which shows a percent single of 73% (about twice as large). Comparing percent of people who are single for any reason to the United States average of 50%, Phelps is approximately three-fourths the size. Also, benchmarked against the state of Wisconsin, percent of people who are single for any reason of 48%, Phelps is approximately three-fourths the size.

Figure 30 compares the single people in each area broken down by never married, divorced, and widowed. Phelps Wisconsin has the smallest proportion of percent never married at 15% of the total. Second, it has in the middle range of other places in the surrounding region in terms of percent divorced at 13% of the total. Figure 31 shows the demographics for the number of single men adults in each area broken out by never married, divorced and widowed. Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of men who have never been married the second smallest as measured by percent of men who have never been married of all the other places in the area at 20% of the total. Second, it has in the center range of other places in the local area as measured by men who are divorced at 14% of the total. Third, it has in the mid range of other places in the greater region in terms of men who are widowed at 5% of the total. Figure 32 shows the number of single women adults in each area broken out by never married, divorced and widowed. Phelps Wisconsin has the smallest proportion of women who have never been married at 10% of the total.

Figure 33 shows the Phelps demographics for the ratio of the number of single men between the age of 18 and 65, in each area, broken down by age group for the Phelps metro area. Phelps Wisconsin has one of the largest proportions of single men 18 to 24 at 19% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Eagle River (22%), and #1 Iron River (23%) are larger. Second, it has in the mid range of other places in the local area in order of single men 25 to 29 at 11% of the total. Third, it has less than most other places in the local area when ranked by single men 30 to 34 at 6% of the total. Also, it has the second smallest when ranked by percent of single men 18 to 24 of all the other places in the metro area in terms of single men 45 to 49 at 3% of the total. In addition, it has the largest proportion of single men 50 to 60 at 39% of the total and is ranked #1. Furthermore, it has the largest proportion of single men 60 to 65 at 16% of the total and is ranked #1.

Figure 34 shows the Phelps population data for the ratio of the number of single women between the age of 18 and 65, in each area, broken down by age group for the Phelps metro area. Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of single women 18 to 24 the second smallest when ranked by percent of single women 18 to 24 of all the other places in the greater region at 3% of the total. Second, it has the second smallest in order of percent of single women 18 to 24 of all the other places in the greater region as measured by single women 25 to 29 at 8% of the total. Third, it has one of the largest proportions of single women 30 to 34 at 16% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Eagle River with 21%. Also, it has less than most other places in the metro area when sorted by single women 35 to 39 at 1% of the total. In addition, it has the largest proportion of single women 40 to 44 at 12% of the total and is ranked #1. Furthermore, it has the largest proportion of single women 50 to 60 at 45% of the total and is ranked #1.

The next section of demographic information provides detailed data Phelps residents including: immigrants, citizenship, immigration, country of origin, non citizens and more. To start, Figure 35 shows a high level view of citizenship. Phelps Wisconsin has the percentage of citizens born In US the second smallest when sorted by percent of citizens born In US of all the other places in the metro area at 97% of the total. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of citizens by naturalization at 3% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Watersmeet CDP with 3%. The next chart (Figure 36) shows for all citizens what the original place of birth was for people who were born in a foreign country and it has the largest proportion of birthplace in northeast US at 2% of the total and is ranked #1.

In Figure 37, the demographic percentage of Phelps residents who were not born in the United States is shown (i.e. percent foreign born.) Phelps shows it has a percent of population who was born in another country of 3.2% which is the second most percent born outside United States of all the places in the greater Phelps region. The city with the highest percent of population who was born in another country in the area is Watersmeet CDP which depicts a percent born outside United States of 3.3% (only about 3.1% larger). Comparing percent of population who was born in another country to the United States average of 13.5%, Phelps is approximately a quarter the size. Also, compared with the state of Wisconsin, percent of population who was born in another country of 5.0%, Phelps is approximately three-fourths the size.



For all foreign born people who have gone through naturalization (the process of becoming a legal U.S. resident citizen), Figure 42 shows the year when they became fully naturalized U.S. citizens. it has one of the largest proportions of people naturalized 2005 to 2009 at 34% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Caspian (40%), and #1 Watersmeet CDP (67%) are larger. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of people naturalized before 1990 at 41% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Eagle River (67%), and #1 Gaastra (100%) are larger.

Figure 43 displays a map of the globe and shows Phelps demographic information for large regions of the world that people from this place originally came from. Phelps Wisconsin has one of the largest proportions of from Europe at 41% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Eagle River with 100%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of from Asia at 34% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Watersmeet CDP (67%), and #1 Caspian (100%) are larger. Third, it has in the center range of other places in the metro area in order of from the Americas at 25% of the total.

Figure 44 categorizes the location for where foreign born people originally come from based on very large continental geographic areas.
