COUNCILLORS are due to agree tomorrow evening (Wednesday, March 26) that the Mercian Regiment should be granted the freedom of the City of Chester.
The regiment's 1st Battalion was formed from the Cheshire Regiment which also had the freedom of the city.
On all ceremonial occasions when the regiment is marching in the city, it will be able to do so “with drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed, or other such ceremony that may be proper at the time or appropriate to the occasion”.
