Running legend Paavo Nurmi set 31 outdoor and several indoor world records in the 1920s and '30s -- all since broken. But the Finnish record he set in Buffalo 71 years and one day ago lasted until Tuesday.
Nurmi, who won nine Olympic gold medals between 1920 and 1928, still held a Finnish mark in the indoor 2,000 meters. Nurmi, who died in 1973 at age 76, lost the mark to Jukka Tammisuo, who was clocked in 5 minutes, 20. …
