Never mind Nethermoor, it was more like Neverland on Tuesday night when Town’s own Peter Pan Lee Nogan turned back the clock with his first start for a couple of seasons.

The 42-year-old veteran of almost 600 senior games in a professional career spanning 20 years was the surprise inclusion in the Town side that faced Guiseley in the County Cup.

His last game was at Harrogate Railway in the same competition and he admitted he felt his age in midweek.

“I am fairly fit but it’s different when you are out there,” he said.

“The touch is all right and you can see things but the legs are not there unfortunately.

“That’s what happens when you are 42.

“You know what you want to do but like with the two chances I had, 10 years ago when I was 32 I would have steadied myself a bit more.

“I was a sub here last year but I didn’t get on - That was because I was in charge that night!

“I will be on crutches for the next week, I think.”

Nogan had initially registered to add numbers to the squad for the County Cup tie.

In the end, largely due to injury to Scott Hogan who is dual registered with Stocksbridge Park Steels, he played into the second half.

And he was pleased with the way the team, packed full of fringe players and youngsters, performed against a strong Guiseley side.

“I registered last week just in case we needed bodies,” said Nogan.

“I was going to be on the bench because Scott Hogan was going to come and play, but he was injured.

“I said I would start and see how long I lasted.

“We did well last year as well. The young lads came in and it was beneficial for the players who have not been playing.”

Having left it two years between starts for the Shaymen, Nogan seems unlikely to make another appearance in 2014.

Asked whether we would see him again, he replied: “I am not registering again - that’s it.

“I am officially going to retire.”
