History of Alnwickhill land and Association
The land on which the estate now stands was originally Backside Lee Farm (remnants of the name are retained in Backlee, the location of the old local shop). The area was sold to Crudens in the early 1970s and the original farmhouse still stands at the end of a short lane leading off Alnwickhill Drive.
The Alnwickhill houses were built first, closely followed by what is now Howdenhall, with the Netherbank region being added some 25 years later. The amenity land was gifted to the Association in 2003/2004, the only costs being the legal fees involved.
