Whoa. We’ve been getting dribs and drabs of reveals for Marvel’s upcoming universal reboot over the past week, but it looks like the jackpot has just hit: Comics retailers across the world have received previews for 45(!) of Marvel’s new series, and it sounds like it’s a whole lot of crazy.
The previews book leaked out late last night, and now scans of each new cover sent to retailers have hit the web, presumably spoiling many of the incoming exclusive announcements Marvel have been doling out for their comics lately (or perhaps more likely, that they were going to splurge out on at San Diego Comic-Con next week). But leak or otherwise, it seems like there’s a huge amount of change coming to the MCU, even if it seems like its overall structure may not be too different from what we’re used to.
Each cover comes with a tagline teasing the plot each series is going through, and it looks like Marvel will be using that 8-month gap between the end of Secret Wars and the start of this universe to bring about some twists that run the whole gamut of good-sounding, bad-sounding, and just plain weird. Spider-Woman, for example, is now heavily pregnant and balancing her hero duties with being a future-single-parent. The Vision is getting his own solo series. Peter Parker is back, as expected, in The Amazing Spider-Man to accompany Miles Morales’ new standalone series—and speaking of Spiders, several multiversal heroes from the recent Spider-Verse event are getting their own series, Web Warriors.
Aside from X-23 becoming the new Wolverine (and what looks like Kate Bishop becoming the new Hawkeye, up against an older Clint Barton from the Old Man Logan comics), it looks like Kitty Pryde is assuming the mantle of Star-Lord for a new Guardians of the Galaxy team starring The Thing as well. It even seems like some of Marvel’s heroes are turning rogue—both Scott Lang’s Ant-Man and Spider-hero Silk’s covers imply that the heroes are turning to crime, and interestingly, the SHIELD cover hints that the spy organization are getting in bed with their long-time enemies Hydra.
