Legner and Walraven reign in Jesolo

NEWS ARTICLE

Martin Legner (AUT) and Sharon Walraven (NED) became the Men's Main Draw and Women's Singles champions on Saturday at the Jesolo Euro Beach Cup.

Top seed Legner, last year's runner-up, was meeting fourth seed Ben Weekes (AUS) in an ITF 2 Series final for the second successive week. In Cesenatico last week only one break separated the two players in either set of Legner's straight sets victory. The same scenario seemed on the cards as Legner edged Saturday's first set in Jesolo, but the Austrian went on to secure a double break cushion in the second set, easing to a 64 62 victory.

The last two of the three career head-to-heads between Women's Singles finalists Walraven and Annick Sevenans (BEL) had gone to three sets. Saturday's final in Jesolo brought yet another three set match between the two players, with defending champion Walraven facing a tough taskt to hold on to her title after going a set down. However, although second seed Sevenans made a bold bid to level their career head-to-heads at two apiece top seed Walraven ultimately held on for a 36 64 62 victory.

Miroslav Brychta (CZE) and Legner (AUT) secured their second successive title as a partnership in the Men's Doubles, winning Saturday's final against third seeds Laszlo Farkas (HUN) and Gert Vos (BEL) 63 76(3).

Meanwhile, top seeds Sevenans and Aniek Van Koot eased to victory in the Women's Doubles final, defeating unseeded Italian duo Silvia De Maria and Mariana Lauro 61 61.
