Kate Jennings Grant will essay one of the most famous female roles of the past 20 years when she plays the title character in The Heidi Chronicles at the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

The new revival of the Wendy Wasserstein play will run Aug. 15-Sept. 2 on the Main Stage.

Scott Lowell co-stars with Grant as Heidi's on-again, off-again love interest Scoop Rosenbaum. Grant appeared in David Auburn's Proof for six months of the Broadway run. She also appeared on Broadway in Wasserstein's An American Daughter. Off-Broadway credits include Radiant Baby and Between Us.

Lowell's regional credits include Present Laughter at the Pasadena Playhouse, Light Up the Sky and A Christmas Carol at Goodman Theatre and Picasso At The Lapin Agile and Twelfth Night at Steppenwolf, and Durang/Durang at Hollywood Court Theater. Television credits include "Queer As Folk," in which he played Ted Schmidt.

The production will be the most significant New York-area mounting of the period piece (action takes place from the late '60s to the mid-'80s) since the show first played Broadway in the late '80s.

The staging concludes the 2006 Mainstage summer season at BTF.
