BANGKOK, 14 August 2014 (NNT) -The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully evacuated over 800 Thais working in Libya back to Thailand while another 400 people remaining in Libya are in the process of accessing evacuation.

Mr Rasm Chaleechan, the deputy Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Information, said that more than 800 Thai workers have returned to Thailand safely while officials are coordinating the evacuation of another 400 people out of Libya, out of a total of 1,342 Thai workers. However, the other 160 people have insisted on continuing to work in Libya, claiming that they reside in safe zones and are not affected. Officials remain prepared to assist if anyone requests a return passage home.

The possibility of the closure of the Thai embassy needs to be considered after a situation assessment.
