Details on Coleman's role are being kept under wraps but sources tell THR that she will appear in the season-four premiere. It's unclear just who her character has ties to and whether or not she's connected to Portia de Rossi, who recently booked a top-secret arc on the Kerry Washington starrer.
Coleman's credits include CBS' upcoming family comedy The McCarthys, set to bow Oct. 30, Men at Work, The Newsroom and The Mindy Project. She's repped by Gersh, 3 Arts and McKuin Frankel.
STORY 'Scandal's' Shonda Rhimes on Season 4: Harrison Is 'Gone,' and Focus Is Back on 'Core People'
Scandal showrunner Shonda Rhimes told THR that season four will return to focusing on its "core people" and return to its case-of-the-week format. "A lot of it was a way of taking care of Kerry, but now that we have the ability to use Kerry the way we need to use her, it means we get to bring everything back to our core in a way that we had in season two and one," she said. "[It's] definitely more of a case of the week, but also literally we can tell a story in which our characters are in a room together. In season two and season one, Kerry is in almost every scene, and that's not possible in season three. So it just necessitated a different mode of storytelling, and we're very excited to get back to Olivia-centric storytelling."
Scandal returns for its fourth season on Thursday, Sept. 25, in its new time slot at 9 p.m. on ABC.
