Some are just born lucky. Nikki Galrani is one of them. For them, the good times never end. Thanks to a stroke of luck or call it plain co-incidence Nikki landed three projects in three languages one after the other.
Smiling like the proverbial cat who got the cream, Nikki ticks off her projects, “I am doing my first film in Malayalam 1983. Other than that I have a Tamil-Telugu bi-lingual as well as a Kannada movie. The Kannada film is the remake of the Tamil hit film Paiyya and the best part is that all the three films will have back to back releases. I am, indeed, blessed!”
Bengalaru-based Nikki is the sister of actor Sanjanaa. Talking of her foray into the glamour world, she says, “I randomly started modeling and I added about thirty ads to my portfolio! In ten months, I landed my first Kannada film too. I jumped at the chance because Paiyya was such a huge hit in Tamil Nadu.” Following in its wake were the Tamil-Telugu bi-lingual. Nikki started shooting for both films simultaneously.
Talking about her role in the Abrid Shine directed 1983, Nikki explains, “I play a village girl who is Nivin Pauly’s childhood love. My role is based in the 70s-80s period, spanning a period from age sixteen to twenty eight.”
For a girl used to playing a glamorous diva, how difficult was it for Nikki to slip into the character of a village girl sporting pigtails and a fresh scrubbed look? She candidly responds, “Playing the character was very challenging! I am a true blue city girl, so playing a character diametrically opposite was obviously very challenging; but it was fun too.” Adding, that she did not wear any makeup for her role and dressed in traditional pattu pavadas for the first time.
Another aspect of the shoot that remains fresh in her memory is the rains in Kerala and she excitedly exclaims, “It was raining during the shoot and I love the rains, so it was really exciting.” For Nikki it is not just the rain that is pouring, offers are pouring in too. Remember when it rains it pours — for some lucky people!
