Charitable trust launched

RECALLING A HERO: Governor Surjit Singh Barnala looks at a photograph of Jai Shankar at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Jai Shankar's son Dr. Vijay Shankar (centre) and Indian Overseas Bank's Chairman, T.S. Narayanasami are also seen.

A charitable trust named after the late actor Jai Shankar was launched on Tuesday by the Governor Surjit Singh Barnala. The Jai Shankar Medical and Charitable Trust has been started by the actor's son and ophthalmologist Vijay Shankar who explained to the Governor about his father's charitable activities.

Vijay Shankar plans to conduct free surgeries on his father's birth and death anniversaries. Later he would rope in more specialists for other charitable activities. When he showed a photograph of Jai Shankar, the Governor recalled how much he had enjoyed watching the actor's movies years ago. The deed of the new trust was released at Raj Bhavan and was received by T.S. Narayanasami, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Overseas Bank.
