IndyGo to discontinue Blue Line, highlight future enhancements
Effective January 1, 2008, IndyGo will discontinue its Blue Line Downtown Circulator. Customers will have daily access to the route from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. through December 31, 2007.
After four years, the Blue Line’s ridership has continued to decline as federal funding allotted for the route ran out.
Currently, IndyGo’s 31 fixed routes serve close to 4,500 bus stops, giving commuters convenient access to key destinations around the city. IndyGo is now looking to the future for service enhancements across the board.
Using additional appropriations from the state Public Mass Transit Fund, the following routes will undergo enhancements in February 2008:
o Route 87 – Eastside Circulator - New route o Route 16 – Beech Grove o Route 24 – Mars Hill o Route 25 – W. 16th Street o Route 37 – Park 100
The debut of the transit company’s express routes is also complementing services. The IndyGo Commuter Express Fishers route has already made a name for itself in two short months, providing more than 14,000 passenger trips. Getting to and from the airport is easier with the new Green Line Downtown/Airport Express. This route provides service seven days per week from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
