Infinity footbridge takes shape
This £15 million pedestrian footbridge in Stockton-on-Tees by Spence Associates is nearing completion.
The structure, designed with Expedition Engineering, has been named the Infinity Bridge as its two arches reflected in the Tees create the mathematical symbol for infinity.
The first arch was lifted into place in June, while in September the UK’s largest crane was used to install the larger arch, weighing 170 tonnes.
The bridge, to open early next year, will link Durham University’s Queen’s Campus and the 22ha North Shore regeneration area, focus of developer Urban Splash’s Make Me A Home competition to design a new type of family housing, sponsored by BD.
