Discovery names new Nordic head Discovery Networks EMEA has created a new position supervising its Nordic channel heads and filled it with an internal promotion. Current German channel director Michael Grubinger will become VP of channels, Discovery Networks Nordic, from August 10, when he will relocate to Copenhagen. Grubinger will oversee the channel managers for Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland. He will report to Discovery Networks Nordic general manager Jan Andreassen, who will continue to have overall responsibility for Discovery Networks' channels in those countries. Grubinger joined Discovery Networks Germany as director of free-to-air channels in 2006. In January last year, he was promoted to director of all German channels, covering programming as well as marketing, PR and on-air promotion. "Michael's significant industry experience, coupled with strong leadership skills, means that he has made a much valued contribution to our business, especially in the development and success of our German free-to-air channel, DMax," said Arthur Bastings, executive VP and general manager of Discovery Networks EMEA. In related news, Discovery Networks' parent, Discovery Communications, has made its own promotion to a new role, appointing James Gilbey, current head of creative at Discovery Networks Europe, to VP and group creative director for Discovery Communications. The new role will see him direct promotion, marketing and branding across all of Discovery's global networks. Emily Brookes 2 Jul 2009 © C21 Media 2009 |
