The Bremen plant has a long automotive history, beginning 70 years ago with the opening of the "Carl F.W. Borgward Automobil- und Motorenwerke". Daimler has continued this tradition down to the present day with the production of Mercedes-Benz premium vehicles. More than five million Mercedes-Benz passenger cars have been made in Bremen since the first estate was produced at the site in the spring of 1978. Starting in fall 2008, the Bremen plant is also producing the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz family, the GLK compact SUV. As Bremen's biggest private-sector employer, the plant is deeply rooted in the region and makes a vital contribution to its economic development. The Bremen employees' outstanding commitment to delivering the highest quality is reflected in the trust and satisfaction of Mercedes-Benz customers worldwide.
