The Trent University Electronic Text

To the best of my knowledge, the Trent University electronic text of Finnegans Wake (produced by Tim Szeliga and Donald Theall) is the only primary electronic text of the book. All other electronic texts on the web (including Fweet's) are based on it. Unfortunately, due to the relatively unadvanced technology available when it was originally produced, the Trent University electronic text is riddled with errors, which currently cannot be corrected, as that website is not being actively maintained by anyone. To partially remedy this situation, this page offers a list of all the known errors (currently more than one hundred and fifty, but I am certain there are at least as many unidentified ones). Needless to say, the known errors are already corrected in Fweet's own electronic copy.

Please note that this list is based on the Faber-and-Faber and Viking editions of Finnegans Wake (and not on the uncorrected Penguin edition). Where the Faber-and-Faber and Viking editions differ, I have noted which edition I am basing my recommendation on.

General Guidelines for the Table Below:

No.: Serial numbering (simply in order to maintain the total number of errors identified).
Line(s): The line or lines of Finnegans Wake where the error is located.
Currently: The current erroneous text.
Should Be: The corrected text or the correction to be applied.
Elaboration: The difference between the erroneous and the corrected forms spelled out (as it may not be always immediately evident, especially when the difference is one of spacing or punctuation).
