The principal, staff and Board of Trustees of Hikuai School extend a warm welcome to visitors and prospective parents/caregivers. We take pride in making our school a friendly place where your child will be treated with respect and care.

Not only are our children encouraged to reach their educational potential and develop a sense of citizenship, but they will feel valued in our school environment which reflects our concern for the whole student, not just the academic aspect (we take pride in the fact that our school-wide achievement levels in national literacy and numeracy tests place Hikuai School students in the above average category).

It is over 100 years since schooling began in the district. The present school was built on this site in 1897, with classrooms being added over the years. The library was added in 1981 and extended in 1998. Further property developments are planned, which include other shade areas.

There have been many changes over the years. Pauanui became a more settled area and the large Lands and Surveys Blocks were subdivided into smaller properties, resulting in a more stable school roll. The opening of the Kopu-Hikuai Road in 1967 contributed to the stability of the roll.

Over time, the Hikuai School district has enjoyed strong parental support and interest. The Board of Trustees and the PTA have undertaken numerous projects. The outcome of the collective effort has been (and continues) to provide a terrific place for children to be. The community takes pride in its school and the achievements of the students.

Hikuai School is open at all times to parents and caregivers and welcomes you in all classrooms.
