Beaver
Did you know?

That when the water level goes down the beavers build their dams higher, and they clear stuff stuff away too. Then the other animals have better habitats.

Life Span

When they are in the wilderness they will live about ten to 12 years. They can live to about nineteen years in captivity. Good diet can increase a beaver's life span.

Predators

Their predators are the wolves, lynx, wolverines, bears and humans.


Reproduction

The female prepares the lodge for her litter. One to six kittens are born.

Elizabeth

Habitat

Its habitat is streams and rivers near willows and poplars. Beaver live throughout most of Alaska except non-forested area along the north and northwest coast.

Food

They eat inner bark of willow, aspen and cottonwood trees, also shrubs and aquatic plants. They are herbivores.

Size and Color

They are 4 feet long including tails, which are 9 to 10 inches wide, and they weigh 40 to 60 pounds. Their fur is colored brown.
