Fun at Tigtigan
By Hazel C. Tuazon, Contributor 11/30/2006 By Hazel C. Tuazon, Contributor Music, dancing, food and SOP ruled! This year’s celebration of the twin fiestas, the Fiestang Kuliat and the Fiestang Apu, of Angeles City in Pampanga were held for the first time in the parking space of SM Clark and not only for a night but for three partying nights. Billed as “Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan” (Music and dancing in the streets), the celebration, held from Oct. 27 to 29, was a priority project of city Mayor Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin Jr. It was also an extended celebration from 4 p.m. to the wee hours in the morning. One unique feature of celebration was the live bands, which included Imago, Sugarfree, Sandwich, Itchyworms and 6Cyclemind. Other popular bands both local and national performed nightly. The parking space was converted into a dance floor with a makeshift Smart hot air balloon where people posed for souvenir pictures. There was also a freedom wall near the exit where people immortalized their feelings at that moment. Every night was capped with a grand display of fireworks. Aside from the dance showdown, street dancing and a rave party, there were henna tattoo and face painting booths. Of course, food flowed from popular food chains to new enterprises like J. Tuazon El Supremo Catering. On the last day of the celebration, the noontime variety show SOP, with its popular hosts, enhanced the fiesta atmosphere inside SM Clark. Dennis Trillo was particularly mobbed by fans and spectators. The Tigitigan Terakan Keng Dalan started in 1991 after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo to boost the city’s tourism. From then on, it was held annually on the last week of October. This year, at least 55,000 people, including tourists, joined and witnessed the fun and excitement of the three-day affair. Back to top
