NOUN: A medium-sized to large dog of a breed originating in Germany, having short hair and a smooth, usually dark brown or black coat.
ETYMOLOGY:German Dobermann (after Ludwig Dobermann, 19th-century German dog breeder) + German Pinscher, terrier (probably from English pinch, from the cropping of its ears and tail).
