`Swapnam' adjudged best megaserial

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 16. The megaserial, "Swapnam", produced by M.V. Sreyamskumar for the Mathrubhoomi Television has won the best megaserial award of 2003 instituted by the Kerala Film Critics Association. Nedumudi Venu and Praveena have been adjudged as best actor and actress respectively.

Announcing the television awards at a press conference here today, the chairman of the jury, George Onakkur, said the quality of materials that were considered for the awards were better than those in the past. A special award for contributions to the television field in memory of T. N. Gopinathan Nair has been presented to Satish Babu Payyannur of the Panorama Vision while actor Shivaji has been selected for a special award for his roles in the serials "Oomakkuyil", "Angaadippaattu" and "Thacholikathayile chaappan".

While Nedumudi Venu was adjudged as best actor for his roles in the serials, "Oomakkuyil" and "Raagaardram", Praveena was adjudged as best actress for her role in "Swapnam". K.K. Rajeev, director of "Swapnam", has been adjudged as best director.

The other awards are as follows: Megaserial- teleserial category: Second best megaserial: "Oomakkuyil"; best teleserial: "Raagardram", Second best teleserial: "Sancharam"; Second best actor: Suresh Krishna and Prem Prakash (Swapnam); second best actress: Ramyasri (Sthreejanmam); best script writer: P. F. Mathews (Idayanum maankidaavum); Lyricist: Kanesh Punoor (Raagardram); Music director: Ramesh Narayanan (Swapnam and Ragaardram); and Playback singers: Madhu Balakrishnan (Ragardram) and Sujatha (Swapnam).

In the telefilm category the following won the awards: Best telefilm: "Sheetakaattu"; Second best telefilm: "Antharangal"; Best director: Ansar Khan (Sheetakattu); Best actor: Venu Nagavally (Sheetakaattu); and Best actress: Sarika (Ninakkayi).

In the documentary category: Best documentary: "Agnisaakshiyude saakshi"; Second best documentary: "Chotta muthal chudala vare"; Best news-based documentary: "Kathayariyaathe"; Second best news-based documentary: "Aarum kaana murivukal"; Best documentary director: Sajeev Pazhoor (Agnisaakshiyude saakshi); and best presentation: V. Krishnakumar (Symphony).

Music album category: Best music album: "Gazalpookkal"; Second best album: "Akaleyaanengilum"; Best album director: Eastcoast Vijayan (Gazalpookkal); and Best singers: Rajesh Vijay and Sangeetha

The awards would be presented along with the distribution of film awards at a function to be held at Kottayam on April 24.

The members of the jury, Thekkinkaadu Joseph, Joseph Mathew Pala, Viswmangalam Sundaresan and the general secretary of the Kerala Film Critics Association, Mannarakkayam Baby also attended the press conference.
