A Scioto County man has been charged in connection to the death of an elderly disabled woman following an abuse investigation.

Matthew Vansickle, 58, of Franklin Furnace, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the death of 79-year-old Patricia Vansickle, according to a news release from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.

The news release said the Southern Ohio Medical Center contacted deputies Wednesday concerning a patient that may have experienced abuse.

Deputies said photographic evidence of injuries led to an interview with Vansickle, who was charged with failure to provide for a functionally impaired adult.

Investigators said the victim was transported to hospice care before dying of injuries due to neglect.

The sheriff's office reported Vansickle is being held on a $50,000 bond and more charges could be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury.

Deputies said the death remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the case may contact detectives at 740-351-1091.
