The Cake Cafe
Charming vintage-style cafe in secret courtyard
Noteworthy for: The Daintree Building, in which the cafe is housed, is one of the Ireland's greenest projects, its award-winning eco-design constructed from sustainable and salvaged materials.
Normally, the back of a stationery shop contains nothing more exciting than heaps of A4 paper. Venture through Daintree stationers on Lower Camden Street, however, and you'll find a lovely surprise in its leafy courtyard: this sweet little cafe, whose home-made cakes, vivacious staff and quaint trappings (mismatched crockery, flowery tablecloths) have made it a popular local spot.
The menu is short and sweet, changing according to the day's baking, but expect cupcakes, cookies, brownies and scones as well as more elaborate confections. Don't pass by the savoury stuff, either: the salads, in particular, are top notch.
