Umpire - (Role is for qualified Umpires only) - YAE '24
• This role is for qualified Umpires only, if you are interested in becoming a qualified Umpire check out the Badminton England Volunteering pages for more information when the next available training course will take place.
• An Umpire is a Technical Officials who are central to regulating badminton on-court and ensuring fair match play, which follows the Laws of Badminton.
• You will be a confident and clear verbal communicator, making calls in front of large crowds.
• In the heart of the action on our Field of Play, you will be discreet and professional at all times.
Perks and Benefits
Badminton England will provide volunteers with free refreshments and meals during their shifts, complimentary clothing and exclusive off-duty access to watching the event!
Accommodation will be provided as part of your role alongside a contribution of 30p per mile, actual mileage or pull full payment of train/bus ticket per day travel expenses and cover car parking on Venue (receipts required).
Birmingham clean air charge payment will be covered, however the Event will not cover any fines or charges for late payment.
Skills You'll Need
• As an appointed Umpire, you must have current and valid credentials as member of the Umpire Association, and have previous experience of Umpiring;
• A passion for badminton.
• Comfortable using a computer and IT systems.
• Initiative to respond to exciting, ever-changing event demands.
• Confident, loud and clear verbal communication, making calls in front of large crowds.
• Quick thinker, with the ability to concentrate and stay alert over one hour.
• Able to climb up and sit at height on an Umpires chair.
• Willing to get involved and have fun!
• Abide by the Badminton England Event Volunteer Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement
• Attend a Volunteer Orientation and umpires briefing before the event – this will give you the chance to meet your team and get a backstage preview of the event!
