TULF announces election plans

Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) sources in Jaffna said yesterday that they were planning to contest only Jaffna Municipal Council, Valigamam West, Valigamam East, Valigamam North, Nallur Pradeshiya Sabhas and the Chavachcheri Urban council.
TULF politbureau member, Mavai Senathirajah who is in Jaffna now said that he was unhappy with the party's decision to contest in the elections, said souces in Jaffna. Senathirajah had also said that he would not take part in the elections. Meanwhile sources in Colombo said that after a dinner hosted by the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament at the Parlimentry complex, the PLOTE leader, Mr. Sidtharthan, Mr. R Sambanthar, TULF MP for Tricomalee and EPDP MP, Mr. Sivathasan strongly urged President Chandrika Kumaratunga who also attended the dinner to postpone the elections. However, the answer from the President, said sources, had not been very encouraging.
