Dr.Wickremabahu Karunaratne, Leader of the New Left Front (NLF), Tuesday registered a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (SLRCL) regarding the attack on him and his party supporters at the Katunayake International Airport (KIA) during the first week of December on his arrival of London, human rights sources in Colombo said.
As a citizen of Sri Lanka he has the fundamental right to enter Sri Lanka and this right has been violated when he was assaulted on his arrival from London, complaint said. Dr. Karunaratne further said in his complaint that no police action has been taken so far even after he brought the matter to the notice of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the KIA. The attack on Dr. Karunaretna and his supporters took place at KIA premises alleging that he had addressed a LTTE Heroes day celebration in London.
