Two arrested in Jaffna

The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) arrested two persons in the peninsula in connection with a case being investigated by the 51-2 brigade in Jaffna town. The army took into custody Ramalingam Santhirakumar, the village officer (Grama Sevaka -GS) of Nallur central division in the afternoon yesterday (November 12).
He was arrested at home and was taken to the 51-2 brigade for further interrogation. A retired surveyor, Nadarajah Ketheeswaran of Sattanaathar Road in Thinnevely was arrested by the army today in connection with the interrogation of the village officer. The retired surveyor is also being held at the 51-2 brigade. The close relatives of both persons reported the matter to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Jaffna. The SLA in Jaffna town declined to give the reason for the arrests but said that if both are found innocent they will be released if not they would be sent to the detention centre at Kankesanthurai.
