"No man ever steps in the same river twice. For it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man."

Few things in life are truly worth experiencing, and NieR: Automata is one of them. It’s got everything: robots, war crimes, dreading existential questions, a protagonist casually expressing a desire to kill God, and sharp-dressed sexy women—it really has it all.

Is Nier Autotmata for you?

You want an action-packed game filled with explosions? This isn't it. You want a safe, linear game that you fully comprehend from start to finish? Absolutely not. Get out. You want to go on a rollercoaster of feelings changing from contentment to despair to shame within minutes- while blasting the best atmosperic OSTs in the entire gaming industry -while looking at 2B's thighs. You found your game. Buy it now.

I started this review with a pseudo-intellectual quote from an old greek long gone. This is corny af. But still amazingly thought provoking. If you glazed over it without questions or second thoughts, you may not enjoy this game the same way I did. NieR Automata is heavily rooted in philosophy and some classical literature. Nietzsche, Sartre and Hegel are directly mentioned, among many others. You'll go unknowingly explore the basics of existentialism as you play...

You know what. This is a waste of my time- there is no one that read so far without having played this game. So for you people:

FOR PEOPLE THAT PLAYED NIER AUTOMATA
You really played it? It's worth it. Trust me.
The build up from NieR Replicant to Drakengard to Automata is amazing. Exploring Yoko Taros mind will directly send you into a mental clinic. I felt sick after playing this game and I still do thinking about it. This game series feels like my first heart break while getting a raise. Violently full-force kicking your little toe against the side of your bed while eating your favourite dish. Whatever you call this feeling. Apparently this is how I like my games. I liked it so much that I cannot enjoy most story games anymore. I reached the ceiling of story and jrpgs games. What do I do now? Actually read philosophy and psychology instead of just looking at simplified brain melting content?

Ingredients

Before starting, carefully prepare each ingredient with the required quantities.
Above all, it is important to know that certain factors will influence the final quality of your waffles: the ambient temperature, the quality of the ingredients, the respect of the preparation steps, …

The quantities of ingredients listed below are based on 16000 Liege waffles of 100 grams each.

Flour : 1000000 g
Butter : 400000 g
Eggs : 4000
Tempered milk : 250000 ml
Fresh yeast : 42000 g
(Vanilla) fine sugar : 60000 g
Pinches of salt : 1000
Pearl sugar C40 : Between 400000 g and 500000 g

Mix dry ingredients which are: flour, salt and (vanilla) sugar .

Advises

Vanilla sugar is a solution to flavour your pastries.
Cinnamon is also appreciated for making Liege waffles.

Step 2

preparation of the well for ingredients

After mixing the flour and sugar, prepare a well in the centre.

Step 3

Liège Waffle: Milk and yeast

Stir fresh yeast into the tempered milk. Mix until the yeast dissolves.

Step 4

Mixing ingredients for Liège waffles

In the centre of the well, pour the eggs, milk and yeast (mixed previously).
Using a blender, mix until a homogeneous dough is obtained.
Etape 5

Add the butter

After obtaining a homogeneous paste, add the butter (slightly softened).
Mix until a compact and homogeneous dough is formed.

Step 6

The Liege waffle dough and pearl sugar

After obtaining a well homogenous dough, add one of the key ingredients of the Liège waffle: pearl sugar C40.
Then, mix by hand without kneading too much or with a blender (slow speed, with a pastry hook), so as not to break or damage the pearls.

Step 7

Liege waffle dough pieces

Divide the dough (weight of your choice) and roll it into dough pieces.
Then let them rest and rise so that they double in volume (at least 1 hour at ambient temperature).
Tip: The ideal temperature of the dough should be ± 27°C, so that the yeast acts optimally.

Non-Spoiler Review

Before I add my personal biased comment to this review: You probably think about playing this game before Automata. This is a well done remaster of the game NieR Gestalt/Replicant. If you want to experience the full franchise, this is a great introduction to the series.

Personal comment: After playing the entire game, I am astonished. The music, atmosphere, story and combat. They all fit so well together. The beginning was a bit rough, but the grind was worth it. Hearing Devola singing was one of the most beautiful things I heard (not kidding). I would often stop by the tavern and just listen to her. The cutscenes were well animated, but the soundtracks made it for me. So unique and well produced to fit into every place and scene. The story is fascinating as well. This game is a really magical experience, made with lots of love and detail.

I don't consider myself a gamer anymore, but this game really was a beautiful experience and lit my interest for the yokoverse.

Evaluation:

Story: 10/10
Graphics: 9.5/10
Gameplay: 9.5/10
Music: 11+/10 (muscial masterpiece)
Atmosphere: 10/10
Characters: 10/10

+Bonus
Creative Game Mechanics: 10/10

Thank you Yoko Taro. Thanks to everyone who helped creating this masterpiece.
