Robert Franz was a German song composer. He studied music at Dessau from 1835 to 1837 under Schneider. After a period of great personal deprivation he won the attention of the masters Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Liszt and then was appointed as musical director at Halle University. As a writer of Lieder he was truely great.
