~=----------------------------------------=~

This game was made for the 2024 GMTK Game Jam. You are a robot built to feed hungry aquatic "customers"! Scale the depths with your trusty fishing rod, then scale the depths again, but in the sense of scaling fish. It is best played in full-screen.

~=-------------CONTROLS------------=~

A / D Keys: Move left and right (player and fishing hook)

E Key: Interact

Mouse: Everything else

~=-----------HOW TO PLAY----------=~

1. Start at the far left and interact to start fishing. The fishing line will automatically descend; use A and D to control its direction. Ram a fish with the hook to deal damage to it, fishing it up after dealing enough.

2. Take your newly caught fish to the Scaling station, where you can scale your newly caught fish. Once you're done scaling a fish, press the button at the top right corner to finish!

3. Feed your cleaned fish to the hungry customer on the right, who will pay you after they're fully satiated.

4. Access the shop using the button in the top right corner to purchase upgrades for your knife, fishing line, and hook!

5. Repeat, until you finally SCALE THE DEPTHS!

This game was made as part of the GMTK Game Jam 2024, with the "Built to Scale" theme. In this game, you are a robot BUILT TO SCALE Fish and the Depths!

Made by Glass Gecko Games  (Itch page)

During the jam, the executable download was broken, but the WebGL version was perfectly functional. Post-jam, a new .zip containing the working game executable was uploaded--There are no differences between this new version and the original WebGL version of the game.

I CANT DO ANY THIG CUZ THE THINGS IN THE CORNER

hi do you would like to join the game jam with us score space because our team need an artist

(+2)

I immediatly wishlisted this game, so cool so fun, so interactive I love the art too! I'm hoping we can cook the fish, maybe earn recipes or something? :3 I love this, and look  forward to it coming out!

Played for about half an hour before I got all the stuff to the max level I enjoyed it a lot

(1 edit)

game get bigger lags spikes on fishes with more scales, the ocean sun fish gets the biggest lag spike due to having the most scales on it, the tuna also have a big lag spike when loading and the cod have the smallest lag spike between the 3 but still noticeable

Really addictive game, this has pretty good potential now that you're planning to make it into a full version!
Obviously as others have pointed out, there are issues with lag (especially in regards to audio) and balancing in terms of the amount of money obtained.

Also in my opinion the creatures should scale repeatedly (felt a bit easy when it went from feeding a kraken/mermaid back to a turtle again)

Could do with buttons to switch between fish (like a hotbar maybe) as 1. It felt less smooth having to click a settings thing then another to switch to the next fish when that could be a button, and 2. The worst part was catching something like a sunfish and then due to the order, it ends up being used on a turtle rather than a mermaid for example.

Other than that, this is a game that I (and many others clearly!) could find themselves playing for hours! Great game, especially given the time constraints!

Thanks so much for the feedback! It's really helpful to see what people are looking for.

We set the Kraken as kind of the endpoint for the game jam, not expecting people to play much beyond that. That’s why there are random customers after the Kraken, just to let you get the upgrades and all the fish. But yeah, it would be way better to have hunger keep increasing.

It's great to see that people wanted to keep going, and we're definitely going to take that advice for the next version!

awww im really sad there isn't more to the game x-x

(+1)

We're currently making a full version of the game!

You can follow us at Glass gecko games on Youtube or Itch to keep up with the game's development!

(+2)

ummm i'm rich got all upgrades money: 4805 omg

Rather than a claymore, I think it'd be cool if the final upgrade was one of the actual sword-sized fish knives. Look up Japanese tuna knife if you haven't seen one. The Korean tuna knife has an interesting design as well.

My game softlocked here (see screenshot). I got really far though, and it was a lot of fun!

My Rating (If I had rated it during the jam, which I didn't):

Enjoyment: 5/5

Creativity: 5/5

Style: 4/5

Overall (I just averaged the previous ratings): 4.5/5

I review really harshly, and this is the only game in the jam I've played (so far) that I gave a 5/5 on enjoyment, so fantastic game!

Thank you so much for the kind words! It means a lot to us at our team at Glass Gecko Games! :D

I can't wait for more upgrades!

what's ligma?

i have one very simple metric for what constitutes a "good game"

That metric is whether or not there is a fishing minigame

Being as this entire game is essentially one giant fishing minigame, I am inclined to say that it is possibly the goodest game ever. The greatest I've ever played. 10/10 i will 100% play again

(+1)

This is a very satisfying game. Fantastic submission. I couldn't stop playing!

(+1)

Such a cool game! Would love for the payment to be more balanced tho.

(+1)

I loved this game, if there’s ever a full version I’ll pay for it!!

Thanks so much! We're planning on further developing this game to release a full version, so keep an eye out for updates!

I can't wait!

(+1)

Great work!!

(+2)

anybody noticed it says "SS.LIGMA" on the boat

(+2)

Make bigger version, this thing is enjoyable like dave the diver.

(+1)

Thanks a lot. We are planning to.

(+2)

 this game cured my ocd

(its a bit laggy, the audio lags too, and my game softlocked, but other than that i loved it)

Yeah, we ran out of time to fix some of those problems unfortunately :(
We're planning on doing a full release/updated version later on to fix all of those issues, though!

nice

Loved this amazing game!!! I played it for a while and it's very entertaining!!! I just would change some things (from my point of view):

- To change the fish while removing it's scales, it would be more comfortable just pressing a key (enter for example)

- Fish sometimes appear flying xD, i understant that it's a bug (seems funny to me though)

- The animals u feed give too much money. Would be nice having to spend more time fishing to full their bar too(i would spend hours playing this xD)

That' all, but seriously, I loved this and the pixelart style, would put u top 10  <3

Thank u so much for the kind words :D!! All these changes are being planning for a full release later on, so look out for that!

(+1)

congrats! I think you deserve top 10 at least, the ratings works weird in my opinion

Iirc there was an entirely different fish scaling game that was shown off on the GMTK livestream that looked very similar at a glance, which might've tanked the creativity score a bit, and some of our animations and UI visuals slightly broke last minute, which also might've lowered our style scores a bit. Nevertheless, thank you so much for the kind words!!! It means a lot to us!

(+1)

It's really cute and fun to get better at catching the fish!

(+1)

Great game, the audio is nice too, fully upgraded everything. Game lags while un scaling the fishes, I am assuming you are using small small colliders maybe that's the reason. Art is superb.

(+2)

It's in 4k !!!

Truly a flying fish

(+1)

Love the style and how its not like every fishing game Great work!

(+2)

I LOVE IT. got all the upgrades, caught a leviathan, and fed the kraken. only complaint is whenever I try to scale a larger fish, the game lags a bit as well as the audio.

Very cute cozy game about Scaling fish.
