Gecko Runner
Whoops! Looks like the internet broke again!
Time for another gecko at Chrome HQ to hit the treadmill and entertain you: the bored user.
What, you thought it was a T-Rex? Didn't you know that almost everything is scaled up in digital media nowadays?
Behind the scenes, it's not as simple as it looks in your browser:
- Your gecko has to ensure its shadow doesn't crash into other shadows... to do so, it must scale its shadow accordingly and jump!
- Meanwhile, it has to dodge meteors in the studio that are out to eliminate the gecko because it's pretending to be a dinosaur— and we all know how dinosaurs ended up!
CONTROLS
This game is a submission to the game jam GMTK 2024 which has the theme "BUILT TO SCALE" and we made it in under 48 hours. :)
Information for Mac-Users:
The 2D shadows don't appear in Chrome and Brave browsers on Mac. However, the game seems to work properly in Safari. We'll investigate this issue after the rating period of the GMTK jam.

This ıs animal abuse, the tears in the geckos eyes got me. Amazing twist to a classic though. Thanks Dennis and Maddie
The art is fantastic. Great work guys
Wow!!!
Love the use of the shadow to evade obstacles, even though it hurts my head a little bit to consider it along with the obstacles of the 3D space, very cool idea to a very nostalgic concept.
PERFECT!
The idea, the art, the mechanics...just perfect guys, well done!
How many geckos did I kill HOW MANYYYY buhuuuhuhuhuhu

Cool concept!
Great art style and good application of the theme! <3
Genius idea. Loved the 2.5D gameplay loop!
Very fun and challenging. Love that you have to pay attention to both planes at once. I had to enable graphics acceleration for it to not lag horribly.

GENIUS WOA
Sadly it did not worked on my computer:(
I really wanted to play in it
Hey, that's very sad :(. Do you have a Mac by any chance? If so, we are aware of an issue with Brave and Chrome browsers. As far as we know, it should run correctly in the Safari browser. :)
If you don't have a Mac, we would be glad to hear what system/browser-combination you are using. We are considering to release a more polished version after the rating-period. So maybe we can address your issue :)
Yep, it is
I will try to play it in Safari :)
UPD It worked! Thank you a lot!!

Love the game, such an unique idea and the art style is amazing!
I love the twist! You should sneak it in Project Chromium xD
Great game! Good intro and music!
This is fantastic. The music is boppy, the intro is so good (I made a really distressed sound at "Throw another gecko"), and the concept is really creative and challenging.
We'd love if you'd check out a fellow lizard game in our submission :)
