If you’ve checked out the Malaysian indie game development scene, then it's no doubt that 7th Beat Games’ Rhythm Doctor will sound familiar to you. On paper, a one-button rhythm game doesn’t sound too tough, but Rhythm Doctor is here to give you a true musical challenge.

Created by Hafiz Azman, the game travelled around the convention circuit for a while and has existed for about seven years as a Flash-based demo, and was available on the official website before Flash was disabled.

Rhythm Doctor now comes to us as a Steam Early Access game, which features new campaigns that can be played solo or in multiplayer, a robust level editor to make, share, and play community levels, and challenging "Night Shift" versions of each campaign level.

As the name suggests, players will assume the role of a doctor who must revive their patients by syncing up to the rhythm of their heartbeats. As the name of the game studio suggests, players must press in tandem with every seventh beat of the level’s song.

It sounds weird at first, but once you get a handle on it, it’ll change the way you think about music and rhythm games. As a Rhythm Doctor, you’ll be treating patients who have all sorts of syncopated heartbeats, letting players experience polyrhythms, hemiolas, and all kinds of irregular time signatures in music.

IGN Southeast Asia reached out to the creator of the original demo, Hafiz Azman, who is currently the lead game designer, on the new developments of Rhythm Doctor and its release on Steam Early Access.

1. What can players expect from this version of Rhythm Doctor?

This game is the official Early Access of the game, so compared to the older demos, it's got new mechanics, new original songs, a story with cutscenes, and new characters to heal.

2. Will there be extra content down the line?

Yes! This release is a bit more than half of the story, and there's still quite a bit more to go where we will wrap up the full story.

3. What would you like to say to your fans who have been waiting for this game?

Thank you for still being here! Your support was why we never stopped working on this game, and it means a lot. We hope you'll enjoy this Early Access release and the eventual full one.

If you want to challenge yourself and immerse into the wacky world of Rhythm Doctor, get it on Steam.
